Bottom Three - Week 4

Hey Bills fan! You're starting quarterback, Trent Edwards!

The following at the bottom three games for week four in the NFL Season. Clay in black, Oz in blue.

13. Buffalo @ St Louis +9.5

Somehow in their failure to cover last week, the Bills won me over a bit. Coming from behind like that was impressive. It showed their offense didn’t have to rely on the running game to win. Part of what scares me about Buffalo is that they don’t have the fire power to come from behind. Well Trent Edwards got me on his side, and he is now on my side. Yes, I’m Gonna Poo on You is now led by Trent Edwards. St Louis, home of my old QB, looks like garbage. If they haven’t given up yet, they will after they lose this one at home to go 0-4. No offense and no defense means an easy cover for you 2008 AFC East Champions.

Bills -9.5

Wow. Did you expect to say any of those things three weeks ago? Not only did your starting quarterback become Trent Edwards, but the Bills are now your pick to win the lowly AFC East. I think there were a lot of people high on the Bills coming into the season. The hook being that with the Patriots in the mix and contingent on the Browns being good (which they aren't), the Bills looked like they could be 10-6 and still miss the playoffs. Now they're a front runner for a spot among the final six AFC teams. Somewhere a smile just came across Schlabach's face and he doesn't know why.

Patriots fans, don't kill me, but I agree with Clay inasmuch as I like this Buffalo team. They've blown out a team that should win their division (Seattle), beaten a top AFC contender (Jacksonville), and showed grit by coming from behind against the Raiders. They do look like the best team in the AFC East. Is that a compliment?

Bills -9.5

12. Denver @ Kansas City +9.5

Last week there was only one home dog, and here we already have two home dogs by over 9. I keep waiting for Denver to let down and lose. I can’t even hope that it is this week. KC really has no offense and their defense wont do anything to Denver. This game will be over by the end of the first quarter. I would take Denver -9.5 in the first half. Speaking of Denver’s offense, I wouldn’t believe everyone that Cutler was going to be this stud, because he looked like shit last year. Well, I am eating that shit. He is the real deal, and this offense can fly. I hope that someone figures out how to stop their offense at some point and they turn out to be a bust, but I won’t hold my breath.

Denver -9.5

The problem with asking this offense to slow down is that Brandon Marshall looks like the best receiver in the league right now. He catches everything thrown to him. Against the Saints secondary, which isn't that hard to ask, he looked like he was playing catch with Cutler. Speaking of Cutler, I'm impressed with the way he throws the ball. A lot of time there's no way the defender is going to get a hand in to knock the pass down because he throws so hard. He's like a young Brett Favre minus the Wrangler jeans.

I know the Saints offense is tough, so it's hard to question the defense yet, but they did allow both the Chargers and the Saints to have a shot to win the ballgame. I think they're safe against the Chiefs.

Denver -9.5

11. Houston @ Jacksonville -9

What is up with the Jaguars? They got their first win last week, at Indy none the less, but I don’t know how good or bad their offense really is. The defense isn’t the same either. Houston is terrible, but should they be getting 9 against a team that is struggling on both sides of the ball? Houston’s offense hasn’t been doing anything and they are already starting to get on Shaub. So far they have given up 31 and 38, but haven’t played at home yet. The Texans so far have faced Pitt defense and Tenn defense, this should be their easiest run yet. The Jags may find life in their offense again, against this defense, but I think Houston pulls some power from their post Ike home crowd, and keeps this one close. They will get a little something going with Slaton and Johnson (who hasn’t done anything yet) and they will put a lot of pressure on Garrard.

Texans +9

It's hard to gauge this Jacksonville team. We know they have the weapons to be a top team in the AFC, if not the league. With Indy looking soft, the Patriots minus Brady, and the Chargers off to a slow start, the time would be right for the Jags to make their move to the upper echelon but they haven't done that thus far. Last week's win at Indy was huge. If they had failed to win that game after how they controlled the ball, it would have pushed them down to 0-3 and deflated their morale. A come-from-behind win, on the road against Indy, was what this team needed to get back on track.

Again, though, another huge spread against the home team. I just don't see this one covering. Steve Slaton (whom I had riding the pine last week in fantasy) had a huge game and has everyone searching for him on the wire. Andre Johnson is yet to make himself be known this season. The Texans will have enough to keep it below two scores.

Texans +9
